MADISON – Representative Petryk (R – Town of Washington) released the weekly radio address on behalf of Wisconsin Legislative Republicans.
As my Republican colleagues and I travel throughout the state one thing is abundantly clear: The worker shortage is very real.
That is why we passed a package of reasonable common-sense bills to make sure that our state assistance programs are focused on helping people find a job. This included measuring the workforce effectiveness of all our state programs using widely accepted job metrics.
While the Wisconsin legislature continues to pass innovative legislation over the last five years to advance our state’s response to the workforce crisis, it continues to be met by a governor that would rather expand government and weaken Wisconsin’s commitment to helping people find a meaningful career.
Despite this misguided vision, the recent state budget allocates over $1.4 billion a year in state money towards workforce development. This includes new money to expand our outstanding youth apprenticeship program while setting aside money to recruit the best and brightest workers from other states to work or start a career here in Wisconsin.
This fall, Republicans will continue to prioritize passing legislation that will support hard-working families in our state and ensure that state benefit programs are tailored to empower people to get the tools they need to enter the workforce and pursue a family-sustaining career right here in Wisconsin.
