MADISON – Today, the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 139 announced their endorsement of Senator Melissa Agard as the next Dane County Executive.
“Senator Melissa Agard has consistently demonstrated her ability to bring people together to get things done in the state legislature. We are confident that she will bring this same spirit of collaboration and effectiveness to the role of Dane County Executive,” said Terry McGowan, President of IUOE Local 139. “She not only has the background and experience needed to lead the county, but she also has a real track record delivering results for working people. Operating Engineers Local 139 is proud to endorse Senator Agard for Dane County Executive and we look forward to continuing to work alongside her when she takes office this Fall.”
“I’m honored to have earned the endorsement of Local 139, and extremely thankful for their support,” said Senator Agard. “During my time in the legislature I have done all I can to ensure organized labor has a seat at the table, and I plan to do the same thing as the next Dane County Executive. The only way Dane County can effectively serve all of our residents is by ensuring working people are at the center of policy decisions that we make. It’s an honor to know that I have the Operating Engineers in my corner, and I can’t wait to continue working with them once I am elected.”
Senator Agard was born and raised in Dane County and is the mother of four sons. She currently represents Wisconsin’s 16th Senate District and was unanimously elected as Senate Democratic Leader in November 2022. Prior to her time in the State Senate, Agard served in the Wisconsin State Assembly and on the Dane County Board.
Earlier this year, Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced his intent to resign in 2024. The general election for Dane County Executive will be held on November 5th, 2024. For more information about Senator Agard and her campaign, please visit www.melissaagard.com.
