MADISON, WI – Madison Ald. Juliana Bennett issued the following statement in response to the February 21st Primary Results, winning with over 70% of the vote and 1,312 voters:

“Tonight, we celebrate our landslide win with our campaign team and supporters. I thank our campaign staff, volunteers, donors, endorsers, and voters. Two years ago, I ran as a young, queer, Black woman seeking to make a real, tangible change in Madison. Two years later, we’ve made progress toward creating a more affordable, equitable, and inclusive Madison. I am confident that together we can overcome any obstacle in our path.”

Together, we reached out to thousands of voters, having meaningful conversations about the hardships in our community. I thank every single person who made a phone call, donated a dollar, or went to the polls and voted for me. We couldn’t do this without you.

We are future movement leaders. We have a long way to go before we win affordable housing, comprehensive transit, sustainability, and other important goals that we’ve set during this campaign. I know that with the support of the community, we will continue to make our voices heard.

Two years ago, I made a promise to each and every one of you that I would advocate for a more progressive Madison that we can call home. I have kept my campaign promises. I look forward to fulfilling that promise as District 2 Alder.”

Once elected, Bennett will be the first young, queer, Black Alder to represent District 2. Bennett and the campaign team extend our sincerest thanks to every friend, volunteer, and voter who made this possible. Thanks to you, we won the primary election. We could not have done this without the hours of work our supporters put into this effort. This is a campaign beyond you and me.
