Hi folks! Welcome back to Tammy Tuesdays, our weekly update email on Tammy’s work and the big fights she’s taking on for Wisconsin families.
Tammy knows that there’s more that unites us than divides us. She understands that Wisconsin’s working families all want good-paying jobs, affordable healthcare, and the same freedoms their parents and grandparents had.
Read below for highlights of what Tammy worked on this week:
Delivering Life Saving Health Care
Everyone has had their lives touched by the heartbreaking effects of cancer in some way or another. Tammy understands this and believes that in order to save lives, we need to make health care affordable and accessible.
Tammy is proud to introduce bipartisan legislation that will reauthorize the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP). The NBCCEDP provides breast and cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services for women who are low-income, uninsured, and do not qualify for Medicaid. The NBCCEDP has helped over 10,000 Wisconsinites over the past five years, and will continue to help thousands of more Wisconsinites upon its reauthorization. Tammy will always work hard to make sure that each and every Wisconsinite has access to lifesaving health care services.
Standing Up for Wisconsin Workers
Way before many in Washington started talking about Made in America and stopping overseas job outsourcing, Tammy was working hard to protect American jobs and keep factories open here in Wisconsin.
From bringing jobs to Wisconsin to including her Made in America provisions in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Tammy goes to bat for our workers and wins big. Right now, Tammy is working across the aisle to pass the Leveling the Playing Field Act 2.0, which builds on previous legislation she championed. This legislation will strengthen American trade remedy laws, so our workers are protected from China’s unfair trading practices. Tammy knows American workers are the best in the world, and that’s why she’ll always proudly stand up for them.
Creating Made in Wisconsin Dairy Industry Jobs
Everyone knows that Wisconsin produces the best dairy products in the world, and we’re nicknamed America’s Dairyland for good reason. Tammy is proud of this fact, and will always work hard to support Wisconsin’s dairy industry. That’s why in the 2018 Farm Bill, Tammy helped pass the Dairy Business Innovation Act (DBIA), which has given grants to dozens of Wisconsin’s dairy businesses to help them diversify their businesses, expand dairy production, and create jobs.
Just this week it was announced that the DBIA would be awarding grants to 26 dairy businesses across the region, including 13 dairy businesses from Wisconsin. These investments strengthen our Made in Wisconsin economy, and put our dairy businesses at the forefront nationally and internationally. The past, present, and future of Wisconsin includes our dairy industries, and Tammy’s working hard to keep it that way.
Strengthening Our Agricultural Industries
Everyone knows that Wisconsin is the agricultural powerhouse of the Midwest and even the country. Our agricultural industries produce world-famous dairy, corn, livestock, cranberries, paper products, and much more. Tammy is proud of this fact, and will always prioritize strengthening our agricultural industries.
To make sure our agricultural industries keep going strong for years to come, we need to prepare the next generation of workers. This week, Tammy was proud to introduce the bipartisan Community College Agriculture Advancement Act. This forward-looking legislation will secure funding for agriculture workforce training, education, and research programs at community colleges. Tammy will always work hard to bolster our agricultural industries because they provide good paying jobs and support working families across Wisconsin.
Protecting Our Great Lakes
With 35% of Wisconsinites living along the Great Lakes shoreline, and many getting their drinking water from Lake Superior or Lake Michigan, Tammy knows how important our Great Lakes are. And she knows that our communities that live along these shorelines are in dire need of resources to respond to the harmful effects of weather events and climate change.
Not too long ago Tammy called on the Biden Administration to invest in our Great Lakes and when Tammy takes on a fight, she wins. And she wins big. This week, Tammy announced she secured $2.6 billion that will be invested in our Great Lakes and coastal resiliency projects. Tammy is making sure that Wisconsinites have the tools and resources they need to preserve our prized Great Lakes for future generations.
Gearing up for 2024
This past weekend, Tammy attended the Democratic Party of Wisconsin’s annual convention and spoke with supporters from across the state. Tammy knows that we’ve had a lot of big wins together, but there’s still more work to be done. In 2024, Tammy is committed to getting the job done for Wisconsinites. That means restoring our freedoms, bringing home more good paying jobs, and making health care and prescription drugs more affordable. Tammy is the fighter Wisconsinites need in their corner, because she isn’t scared to take on anyone and when she wins, she wins big.
