Hi folks! Welcome back to Tammy Tuesdays, our weekly update email on Tammy’s work and the big fights she’s taking on for Wisconsin families.

Tammy knows that there’s more that unites us than divides us. She understands that Wisconsin’s working families all want good-paying jobs, affordable healthcare, and the same freedoms their parents and grandparents had.

Read below for highlights of what Tammy worked on this week:

Standing Up for Wisconsin’s Dairy Farmers

Everyone knows that Wisconsin’s dairy farmers produce the best products in the world. So when plant-based imitation products steal dairy’s good name they take advantage of the hard work dairy farmers do every day in Wisconsin.

This week, Tammy is standing up Wisconsin’s dairy farmers by calling out the FDA for their inaccurate labeling and lack of transparency with dairy consumers. She is also working hard to pass her bipartisan DAIRY PRIDE Act, which would protect our dairy farmers and make sure that consumers know when they are buying our famous Wisconsin dairy products, and not the mislabeled stuff.

Fighting Corruption in Washington

Instead of serving their constituents, some members of Congress are more interested in enriching themselves.

This week, Tammy joined bipartisan efforts to introduce legislation that bans members of Congress, their spouses, and dependent children from abusing their positions of power to influence their stock trading. Tammy ran for office to serve the people of Wisconsin, not corrupt financial interests. That’s why Tammy has had a blind trust since 2001. Tammy will keep fighting to crack down on congressional stock trading because the American people deserve better from their elected officials.

Lowering Prescription Drug Prices

When Tammy heard that Wisconsinites were being forced to choose between paying for their groceries or life saving prescription drugs, all while drug companies were turning record profits, she took action. From passing a bill to help lower the costs of prescription drugs to capping insulin costs for seniors on Medicare at $35, drug companies are scared of Tammy because she takes on the big fights and wins.

In a Senate hearing this week, Tammy demanded answers from drug company leaders about why they’re hiking up the prices of insulin and giving no explanations for their unfair price increases. This hearing comes as Tammy is working hard to pass her FAIR Drug Pricing Act, which would force drug companies to be more transparent before increasing their drug prices. Tammy will stand up to anyone to ensure that Wisconsinites have access to affordable prescription drugs that their lives depend on.

Expanding Mental Health Care Access

Mental health care hits close to home for Tammy. Her mother struggled with mental illness, physical illness, and addictions. As our country battles a mental health crisis, Tammy has been leading efforts to confront the stigma around addiction and mental illness, and has pushed Washington to step up and support treatment, prevention, and recovery efforts.

Tammy’s hard work in the fight against the mental health epidemic earned her recognition as one of the top 25 Mental Health Champions of 2023. Just last year, Tammy spearheaded efforts to rollout the 988 Suicide Prevention Hotline and this year she’s voted for funds and resources to address the mental health crisis and substance use epidemic. And right now, Tammy is pushing for a $10 million investment for mental health services in rural communities in this year’s Farm Bill.

Tammy knows that anyone can be affected by mental illness and wants people to know that they shouldn’t have to suffer in silence. Mental health care is health care, and Tammy will keep working hard until everyone has the resources they need.

Cracking Down on Anti-Competitive Practices in Hospitals

Tammy believes that everyone should be able to receive the best health care at the lowest cost and that’s convenient for them. However, today’s standard allows large health care systems to unfairly restrict competition and dictate where people can and can’t use their employer-sponsored health insurance, putting the health care needs of people secondary to the special interests of health care systems.

This week, Tammy introduced the bipartisan Healthy Competition for Better Care Act, which would crack down on anti-competitive practices in hospitals. This means insurers and employers would be able to contract with whichever hospitals and providers make sense for their patients, lowering health care costs in the process. Tammy will always work hard to make sure our health care systems should work for us, not the other way around.
