Waupun- Mayor of Waupun, Rohn Bishop, is thankful for the hard work and support from Senator Dan Feyen and Representative Michael Schraa on their efforts to help Waupun with both an increase in state shared revenues and their efforts to tackle the staffing and security concerns at our local correctional intuitions.

“I’m very thankful to Senator Feyen, Representative Schraa, Speaker Vos, Leader LeMahieu, and of course Governor Evers for really coming through for Waupun. We were on the verge of cutting basic services had we not gotten some revenue help, but with a $600,000 revenue boost, it gives us some breathing room,” the Mayor said, adding, “And the prison staffing situation has reached a crisis, and is unsafe. Hopefully now that we’ll be paying the correctional staff what they’re worth, we’ll see a decrease in vacancies and Waupun Correctional can get back to full strength.”

Waupun, known as “Prison City” is Wisconsin’s greatest little city, with a population of 11,535 and is home to three of Wisconsin’s correctional facilities, including the state’s oldest prison, Waupun Correctional Institution. WCI is one of the longest continuous serving prisons in America, and is where all Wisconsin license plates are produced! Waupun is proud of our history with corrections, as our history museum recently unveiled a corrections themed exhibit titled, “If These Walls Could Talk.”
