MADISON, Wis – Construction Business Group applauded President Biden’s U.S. Department of Agriculture recent issuing of a “Finding of No Significant Impact” for the flexible, low-emitting natural gas Nemadji Trail Energy Center project in Superior, Wisconsin. During construction, the $750 million project will create 350 family-supporting union jobs. When operational, the Nemadji Trail Energy Center will provide critical energy for families and businesses and support the transition to renewable energy. The facility is expected to sustain 25 permanent jobs, 150 indirect jobs, and generate an estimated $2 million in annual revenues for state and local governments.
“CBG applauds the Biden administration for recognizing the Nemadji Trail project is a win for workers and the environment,” said Robb Kahl, Executive Director of the Construction Business Group. “Not only will the Nemadji Trail project bring with it more than 350 good paying union construction jobs, and millions in revenues to the local and state government, but it will also pave the way for the construction of more renewable energy projects and aid in reducing overall CO2 emissions.”
To ensure the Nemadji Trail Energy Center project is completed to the highest standards, and in the safest manner possible, a letter of intent for a project labor agreement was signed in August between the Northern Wisconsin Building and Construction Trades Council and Minnesota Power – one of the three utilities that are partnering on the project. When completed the energy center will deliver 525-625 megawatts of baseload energy to the electric grid and serve as a reliable energy source when renewables like solar and wind are not available – filling the gap as many utilities retire coal-generated facilities in their transition to renewable energy production.
