WASHINGTON, D.C. — TODAY, June 23rd, Courage for America hosted a virtual press call ahead of the first anniversary of the Supreme Court’s extreme decision overturning Roe v. Wade. United States Representative Gwen Moore, Christina Thor, 9to5 Wisconsin State Director, and Meghan Roh, Opportunity Wisconsin Program Director, urged GOP House members to support efforts to codify Roe and end support for extreme anti-abortion measures.
Wisconsin is home to Representatives Steil, Van Orden, and Tiffany, whose stances on abortion are out of step with voters. All three representatives are on the record in opposition to abortion rights. In 2022, Rep. Steil and Rep. Tiffany co-sponsored legislation that would “effectively ban most abortions.” Rep. Van Orden has previously spoken out against abortion, even in cases of rape or incest, saying it was “just compounding the evil of the rape or the incest” and “you can’t heal that evil by adding more on it.” Wisconsinites feel differently; today, Rep. Moore and community activists voiced the concerns of most Wisconsinites and called on the three congressmen to allow the critical Women’s Health Protection Act, which would codify the rights established in Roe, to come to a vote in Congress.

“We have seen 10-year-old girls having to travel across [the] state in order to get abortion care… It’s a really sad anniversary because we know that above and beyond the health risks that women face from not being able to get abortion care, they don’t have control of their lives.” said Rep. Gwen Moore.
