Sturgeon Bay, WI—Nature as represented by many iconic Door County fine artists will be up for bid at the Door County Land Trust’s (DCLT) Annual Gathering silent auction to be held at the Belgian Heritage Center in Namur on Friday, August 25 from 2pm-5pm. The highly sought-after, donated works of the artists range from paintings to photography. All proceeds benefit DCLT conservation efforts.
Landscapes painted in pastel, oil, and acrylic by fine art painters Liz Maltman, Rob Williams, Rick Risch, Mac Schueppert, and Dan Collins will be on display for bidding. The nature theme continues with stoneware pieces by Larry “Thor” Thoreson of Gills Rock Stoneware and Thomas Skupniewitz, represented by Edgewood Orchard Galleries. Bidding is also available for handmade serving pieces made of Chambers Island beechwood by Russ Feirer and a 16×24 photographic print on aluminum by internationally recognized photographer David Heilman. Bailey’s Harbor clothing designer Peter Ciesla’s contribution to the auction enables the highest bidder to collaborate on a custom-designed vest made from recycled denim.
“We are extremely grateful that these high caliber artists are willing to donate their stunning pieces to our event,” said Executive Director Emily Wood. “Many of them repeatedly offer their talents in support of the Land Trust. In many cases, their work is inspired by the flora and fauna of Land Trust preserves. We can’t thank them enough.”
The auction is only one part of the event’s festivities, which includes a social, live music with a French jazz influence by the Caravan Gypsy Swing Ensemble from Madison, buffets of hors d’oeuvres and desserts, Belgian Heritage Center Museum tours, and a talk by DCLT Executive Director, Emily Wood, who will speak on DCLT’s recent land acquisitions and partnerships with landowners in Southern Door.
