MILWAUKEE, WI – Civil legal aid attorney and candidate for Milwaukee Municipal Judge Molly Gena has released the following statement in response to proposals that Governor Evers announced during his budget address last week.

“I applaud Governor Evers’ recent proposals to improve public safety in Wisconsin by funding driver’s education programs and making undocumented immigrants eligible for driver’s licenses,” said Gena. “Traffic safety is an urgent issue in many of our communities. Teaching students the rules of the road and giving drivers the skills needed to drive safely will reduce accidents and save lives. I’m proud to have contributed to the effort to get driver’s education reinstated in Milwaukee Public Schools through the MPS Drive program and I worked closely with that program.”

“In my experience as the supervising attorney of the Center for Driver’s License Recovery and Employability, I saw that a driver’s license is a necessity for families and individuals. It is an important employment credential and way to get to and from work, medical appointments, etc. These proposals by Governor Evers represent an important investment into healthier and safer communities here in Milwaukee, and across the state.”

Molly Gena’s ongoing 15-year career as a civil legal aid lawyer includes helping people recover their suspended or revoked driver’s licenses. She has provided free legal services to more than 1,700 clients who couldn’t afford an attorney and practices extensively in Milwaukee Municipal Court.
