Today, after YouTube confirmed it will leave up content spreading blatant misinformation about the 2020 presidential election and other U.S. elections, Informing Democracy Executive Director Jenna Lowenstein issued the following statement:
“People deserve reliable information about voting, ballot counting, and election certification—that’s why Informing Democracy works to make the detailed processes behind election administration transparent and understandable.
“It’s a dangerous mistake for any company to normalize misinformation about elections or to platform people trying to undermine our democracy. We call on YouTube and its parent companies to immediately reverse course.”
