Madison, WI – IRG Action Fund has made improving literacy for Wisconsin’s kids one of its key education priorities. Today, IRG Action applauds the massive steps forward the “Right to Read” bill would take to put Wisconsin back on top nationally in reading.

IRG Action Executive Vice President Chris Reader released the following statement:
“With this bill, Wisconsin is finally poised to catch up to the rest of the country in reading. This groundbreaking legislation copies the most successful states’ policies, including replacing discredited balanced literacy with phonics, upgrading training for future and current teachers, identifying struggling students early, and getting parents involved. All of IRG Action’s top nine literacy priorities are present, helping students across the state. While there are improvements to be made on a couple of key concerns, we applaud the bipartisan effort of the authors to put kids first and get Wisconsin “right on reading.”
