WASHINGTON – Today, the Jewish Democratic Council of America announced its first endorsement of 2023: Judge Janet Protasiewicz for the Wisconsin Supreme Court. This is JDCA’s first endorsement in a state Supreme Court race.

JDCA CEO Halie Soifer released the following statement on the endorsement:

“JDCA entered this race because Judge Protasiewicz shares our values, Wisconsin’s Supreme Court will decide matters of critical importance, and this important political moment in the United States. Protasiewicz’s opponent exemplifies right-wing extremism; his victory would pose a direct threat to democracy and abortion rights in Wisconsin, and he opposes essential government programs including Social Security. JDCA’s political work is driven by our Jewish and Democratic values, and it’s clear our values are on the ballot in Wisconsin in this Supreme Court race.”

Judge Protasiewicz shared the following response to the endorsement:

“I am honored to be supported by the Jewish Democratic Council of America. The JDCA understands how much is on the line in this election and believes that the law should be fair, impartial, and protect the rights of everyone. That’s why I’m running, because our state deserves a Supreme Court that will uphold the law and protect our constitution. I’m proud to have earned the support of so many organizations who know that it’s time to bring common sense back to the court.”

Over the next month, JDCA will mobilize the Jewish vote in Wisconsin in collaboration with our partners across the state, building off our 2018 successes in helping to elect Governor Tony Evers and re-elect Senator Tammy Baldwin and re-elect Gov. Evers in 2022. Just as we’ve done across the country in 2018, 2020, 2021, and 2022, we will ensure that the Jewish vote overwhelmingly comes out to support our shared values in this race and deliver victory for Judge Protasiewicz.
