Responding to Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers and his call to raise state spending, and increase shared revenue, by at least $1.3 Billion, the Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) Press Office issued a statement over the weekend, calling for cuts to the current state budget and for ending the state and Federal income taxes.

Starting from the premise that “the power to tax involves the power to destroy,” as said by the US Supreme Court (McCulloch v. Maryland, 1819), and that it can endanger private enterprise and impoverish citizens, the LPWI Press Office quoted the party platform:

“We [the LPWI] advocate phasing out taxes on incomes, personal property, and real property, along with corresponding decreases in the size of government. We advocate phasing out taxes on corporations and businesses.”

The explanation of the platform went on to say:

“The two party system—BOTH Democrats and Republicans—believe that government exist to do or support all one thing or all of the other, to benefit their own side, of whoever holds the power,” said LPWI Press Secretary Tim Krenz. “If the present governments can only survive and act by massive taxation on incomes for the benefit of certain interests, it hurts the average person, the common person most. Income taxes come only with the threat of force, itself a fraud committed against free people.

“Consensual fees for local governments and services, if required, will prevent the evil that all governments can do when they destroy freedoms, through forced taxation or other means.”
