The Zoning, Neighborhoods, and Development Committee will hold a public hearing next week on a rezoning to allow the construction of a proposed Juvenile Justice Facility at 7930 W. Clinton Ave.

The hearing will take place during the ZND meeting scheduled for Tuesday, January 10 at 9 a.m. in Room 301-B, at City Hall, 200 E. Wells St.

The State of Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) has proposed to construct a Juvenile Justice Facility that will require rezoning 7930 W. Clinton Ave. from Industrial Light (IL1) to Detailed Planned Development (DPD).  The hearing on the zoning change allows public testimony on the proposal and the plans prior to any final plan approval by the Common Council.

Detailed Planned Development Zoning exhibits describing the plan for the facility and showing the proposed designs are available for viewing in the Council file

DOC has also created a public website with info about the proposed facility: https://doc.wi.gov/Pages/AboutDOC/Act185.aspx

The DOC has hosted public listening sessions about the proposed facility (including mailing out notice to neighbors within 800 feet of the proposed facility) in recent months, and a public hearing was held on this proposal at the December 12, 2022 meeting of the City Plan Commission.

Tuesday’s meeting will be streamed live on the City Channel (channel 25 on Spectrum Cable and channel 99 on AT&T U-Verse in the City of Milwaukee) and via streaming video on the city website at www.city.milwaukee.gov/Channel25.
