MILWAUKEE – Today, Governor Tony Evers, Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu, and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos announced a historic and bipartisan agreement to increase shared revenue for Wisconsin communities and provide Milwaukee County and the City of Milwaukee the authority to enact a sales tax to generate the funding necessary to fund critical public services. Milwaukee County Board Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson made the following statement:

“This deal presents a generational opportunity for us to address long-standing fiscal challenges and inequities that our county and state have faced for far too long. If we want to become the healthiest county in the state of Wisconsin, we need to invest in key services, and this deal will allow us to do so.”

“I look forward to continuing conversations at the local level with County Board Supervisors, stakeholders, and the residents we are elected to represent as we work to build a stronger, healthier, and more equitable Milwaukee County.”

“I thank Governor Evers, and legislative leaders, for forging a tentative agreement to resolve the most immediate challenges facing residents of Milwaukee County. This compromise will be transformative for our communities and our state and will provide opportunities for generations to come.”
