MILWAUKEE – Today, Governor Evers signed into law local revenue legislation that allows elected officials to authorize a sales tax for Milwaukee County. Chairwoman Marcelia Nicholson made the following statement:
“With the signing of local revenue legislation into law, we are faced with a generational opportunity to avert a fiscal crisis that has been decades in the making. Continuing to provide the essential resources that our residents rely on, like human services, public safety, transit, and parks is of the utmost importance.
Now that a revenue tool is teed up for the County, it’s time to drive this opportunity down the fairway. The Board will begin to deliberate on the funding solution provided to us by the State to address the pending fiscal cliff.
We must act responsibly as we engage with our community and stakeholders. By seeking input, considering various perspectives, and working closely with our fiscal experts, I am confident that this Board will make informed decisions that align with the interests and priorities of Milwaukee County residents.”
