In response to the United States House and Senate reintroducing the Freedom to Vote Act, NextGen America President Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez released the following statement:

“The Freedom To Vote Act would strengthen our democracy and empower millions of Americans to use their voice. If passed, the bill would be the most consequential voting rights bill enacted in more than half a century, and would address some of the biggest problems facing our nation today – from efforts to restrict access to the ballot, to campaign finance laws, to voter roll purges, to extreme partisan gerrymandering – the passage of this bill is essential to building a more just, more representative nation.

“Young voters across the country are calling on our elected officials to pass this legislation into law. As the largest, most diverse generation in American history, we believe in a future that respects our voices and represents our values. In the past few years, we have experienced a concerted attack on our democracy that restricts access to voting, especially for young people of color. Our leaders have to act now to protect and defend our most basic right of the power of our vote.”
