Madison – Rep. Amy Binsfeld (R-Sheboygan) was appointed by Speaker Robin Vos to serve chair of the  Speaker’s Task force on Truancy:

“I want to thank Speaker Vos for putting his faith in me by appointing me to chair of the truancy task force committee.” Said Representative Binsfeld. “The state has seen a rise in children being truant at school which causes a decline in overall school performance, I am optimistic that this task force can find  solutions to these problems.”

“I am excited for the opportunity to work with Representative Dora Drake (D-Milwaukee) on this important topic.”

Recognizing the impact of truancy on educational attainment and future opportunities, the Speaker’s Task  Force on Truancy in K-12 Education will work to identify root causes and implement effective interventions. The members of the task force will examine the relationship between truancy and student academic success, evaluate the current practices to hold parents and schools accountable for student attendance, and increase awareness and resources, ensuring every child has access to quality education and a promising future.

“Children deserve the best education possible and we will hit the ground running by hearing input by Wisconsinites around the state on possible solutions.”

The Speaker has created four bi-partisan task force committees this session.
