Governor schedules bill signing for Co-Chairs’ legislation during public hearing

Madison, WI – The Co-Chairs of the Joint Committee on Finance (JFC), Senator Howard Marklein (R-Spring Green) and Representative Mark Born (R-Beaver Dam) issued the following statement after receiving an invitation for the bill signing for Assembly Bill (AB) 28.  Sen. Marklein and Rep. Born authored AB 28, which provides the option of protective status classification for county jailers.

Marklein and Born received an invitation today, April 4, 2023, for the bill signing on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at 3 p.m., which is during the Joint Committee on Finance (JFC) Public Hearing in Waukesha. The Public Hearing was announced on March 7, 2023.

“The Governor’s blatant political move to purposely exclude us from the bill signing for our legislation is disgusting. It just shows the Governor isn’t serious about working with the legislature. He can say he wants to collaborate and seek middle ground, but he doesn’t.  He is as two-faced as it comes.

“The Public Hearing in Waukesha has been on the books for a month. We are committed to hearing from the people of Wisconsin and putting them first. The Governor’s blatant, political gameplay is childish and disrespectful. The people of Wisconsin deserve better than this.”
