MADISON – The Wisconsin State Assembly met in regular session to take up legislation related to unemployment insurance and healthcare benefits. Rep. Conley issued the following statement in response:
“Wisconsin’s unemployment rate continues to be lower than the national average, while our labor force participation rate is higher than the national average. Republicans should be honest about the workforce challenges Wisconsin faces. The issue is not people sitting at home; Wisconsin has always been home to hard workers. However, people are leaving the state and we are experiencing changing demographics. The bills we took up today do nothing to attract and keep workers in the state or support working families.
“We know what will attract more workers; investments in comprehensive solutions. Governor Evers has invested nearly $130 million toward local initiatives for long-term solutions to regional workforce challenges, such as removing barriers to childcare, skills training, housing, and transportation. Prioritizing these policies will make Wisconsin a place people want to come work, live, and raise their families.”
