(MADISON) – Today, Governor Tony Evers delivered his fifth State of the State Address. Rep. Sue Conley (D-Janesville) released the following statement following Governor Evers’ address Tuesday evening:

“Governor Evers truly listens to the people of Wisconsin. His investments in our main street businesses and working families have put Wisconsin in a strong position to keep moving forward.

“Four years ago, Wisconsin K-12 schools ranked 18th in the country. Thanks to Governor Evers’ leadership and the largest increase in special education in state history, we’ve risen to the 8th spot. I applaud his continued dedication to our kids and schools through a proposed $20 million investment to increase literacy-related programming and a “Do the Math” initiative to ensure kids learn important personal finance tools.

“Governor Evers is prioritizing our municipalities, which have long experienced unequal funding. His plans to increase shared revenue for our communities is much-needed.

“Here in Janesville, I’ve seen firsthand the positive impact of Governor Evers’ Main Street Bounceback grant program. The program fostered local talent to fuel economic recovery and grow our small businesses and Main Streets. New business formations have increased 42 percent between 2019 and 2021 across the state.

“Governor Evers is also cleaning up Wisconsin’s water, with plans to reduce PFAS in our wells and waterways. And, I am pleased to see his plans for continued investment in clean energy to address climate change here in our state.

“Wisconsin boasts one of the largest surpluses our state has ever seen, record low unemployment, a robust labor force participation rate, all thanks to Governor Evers’ steadfast leadership. I look forward to the next four years.”
