Madison – Today, the Assembly voted on the shared revenue bill and a K-12 education funding bill. Representative Dave Considine (D-Baraboo) issued the following statement on the passage of these bills:
“I commend Governor Evers for working with Republican leadership, who continually refuse to negotiate on issues that are important to the state and to our district. Under the leadership of Governor Evers, there has been significant progress in increasing state contributions to education and local governments. Before him, our state was leaving our schools and communities with less and less resources.
“Despite these positive changes, I felt compelled to vote against both the shared revenue bill and the K-12 education funding bill. Both of these bills contain policy provisions that Republican leadership demanded remain. The changes in the education funding bill shifts the costs for private voucher schools to the property tax payers in our state. This is unfair and unsustainable. Meanwhile, the shared revenue bill decreases local control, in a small part from small local governments, and in a large part from the largest economic drivers of our state, Wisconsin’s major cities.
“I am glad that our public schools will see an increase and that our local units of government will see a significant boost. We must continue to improve state funding in these essential areas to improve the lives of all people in Wisconsin.”
