Madison – TodayRepresentative Bob Donovan (R-Greenfield) gave a statement following the Floor Session in the Capitol. The Assembly passed Senate Bill 76 which reorganizes state statute to properly define “carjacking” in addition to providing an increased penalty. Rep. Donovan said:

“Crime takes the form of many actions. Reckless driving, stolen vehicles, and fleeing an officer are all examples of crimes that have overwhelmed local communities. Carjacking can also fit into that category. Carjacking can be described as a violent and despicable act that not only involves a stolen vehicle, but threatens the owner’s life.”

“I am proud to have co-sponsored this legislation and thank the bill authors for bringing it forward. It was time that we cleaned up the state statute and increased the associated penalties to fit the crime. However, the work does not end here – communities still face an uphill battle. As the elected officials of Wisconsin, we must continue to take up the individual issues that threaten the public’s safety.”
