MADISON – Today, the Assembly passed a workforce and senior housing package, including Assembly Bill 264-268. This legislation addresses the lack of affordable housing across the state with various programs. The package contains several pieces of legislation that aim to ease construction costs for developers, and renovation costs for homeowners.
All of these programs would be administered by the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority. The bills would establish revolving loan funds for workforce and senior housing, Main Street housing rehabilitation and turning vacant commercial buildings into new residential developments. Another bill would provide low-interest loans for residents making improvements to old homes.
Representative Jodi Emerson (D-Eau Claire) issued the following statement in response:
“As the lead Democratic author of this bill, I was happy to work across the aisle with our Republican Colleagues. When we work together for the people of Wisconsin, our State benefits. Assembly Bill 264-268, will go a long way to ensure we are taking care of our communities and making sure we are lifting burdens and obstacles to affordable housing and alleviating restrictions for homeowners.”
