MADISON – This week, Governor Evers’ announced $3.8 billion in recommended investments in his 2023-25 Capital Budget for the renovation and renewal of the state’s existing infrastructure and to support major projects across the state. Part of this investment is $231 million towards the replacement of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Philips Science Hall. Representative Jodi Emerson (D-Eau Claire) issued the following statement in response:
“The completion of the UWEC Science Hall will continue to put the Eau Claire region in the forefront of education, research and healthcare, and I am proud to have had a hand in helping push for this project. The new building will present Eau Claire with an incredible chance to continue as national leaders for rural healthcare research and innovation.
“I thank Governor Evers for his continued commitment to the UW-System. I urge the members of the State Building Commission to vote yes on the Governor’s recommendation for the UWEC Science Hall project and implore the Joint Committee on Finance to keep this critical piece of educational infrastructure in the budget”
The State Building Commission will meet in March to vote on the governor’s recommendations. Following that vote, the State Building Commission’s Capital Budget Recommendations are statutorily required to be submitted to the Joint Committee on Finance by the first Tuesday in April.
