Madison – Representative Chanz Green (R-Grand View) issued the following after voting yes on Assembly Bill 245 relating to shared revenue:
“I am excited to be part of this historic piece of legislation that brings a municipality at least 15% in shared revenue to their local government,” said Rep. Green. “This is a huge win for Northern Wisconsin, providing much-needed funding to our rural communities.”
With every local government seeing at least a 15% increase in shared revenue, this legislation is the largest increase in state history for shared revenue.
The new money that is being allocated to local government will help reform how it operates. Additionally, a portion of the funds will be allocated to support law enforcement, fire protection, emergency medical services, emergency response communications, public works, and transportation.
“The top priority of Republicans is to keep communities safe and make sure local governments have the funds to do so,” said Rep. Green. “Providing this new shared revenue to local governments in Northern Wisconsin will have a huge impact down the line on maintaining public safety.”
The bill now heads to the state Senate for consideration.
