Madison – State Representative Nate Gustafson (R – Fox Crossing) voted today to keep our “best and brightest” students in Wisconsin (Assembly Bill 370).
“Nearly 90 percent of in-state graduates stay in the state five years after earning a degree.” Rep. Gustafson said after the proposal passed the Assembly. “Wisconsin’s best and brightest high school students should be allowed to attend Wisconsin’s best universities and join the workforce after they graduate.”
Assembly Bill 465 requires the Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System to establish a guaranteed admissions program for applicants who achieve certain academic rankings. The requirements are included below:
UW-Madison Admissions Qualifications
- Class ranking is the top 5%, which is calculated by either of the following or a combination of the following two criteria
- Minimum ACT or similar college entrance exam in the 90% percentile ranking
- Minimum GPA of 3.85
- All other UW schools Admissions Qualifications
- Class ranking is the top 10%, which is calculated by any of the following or a combination of the following two criteria
- Minimum ACT or similar college entrance exam in the 85% percentile ranking
- Minimum GPA of 3.50
The legislation now heads to the state Senate for consideration.
