Madison, WI – Legislative Republicans unveiled two bills on Wednesday. The first bill seeks to allow hormonal contraceptives to be prescribed and dispensed by pharmacists. The second bill updates Wisconsin’s 1849 abortion statute creating exceptions for cases of rape or incest during the first trimester and clarifies language to save the life of the mother. On the issue, Rep Karen
Hurd released the following statement:
“There is, perhaps, no other issue that is so deeply emotional as that of abortion, and this bill seeks to find a middle ground. The large majority desire an abortion ban that has exceptions for the health of the mother, and rape or incest. Because of that, I am bound to reflect the opinions of the people whom I represent despite any personal conviction that I hold. The proposed
legislation banning abortion mitigated by exceptions is a path forward to honoring the heartfelt opinions of all.”
