Madison—Friday, Representative Scott Johnson of the 33rd Assembly District thanked former Governor Tommy Thompson for his service to the university and congratulated the University of Wisconsin Madison on the investiture of its new chancellor, Jennifer L. Mnookin.
Rep. Johnson gave the following statement:
“I believe it is right to begin saying how much I and this state are grateful to Governor Thompson for once again stepping up to the plate when service was needed. His willingness to guide such an important institution through challenging times once again proves his devotion to service. Now, as a member of the Committee on Colleges and Universities, I sincerely congratulate the university on its selection and full investiture of its newest chancellor, Jennifer Mnookin.”
“Thursday evening I had the pleasure to join fellow assembly and senate colleagues to dine with Ms. Mnookin and many other members of higher education. It was wonderful to hear stories and perspectives from so many of her friends and colleagues. Which is why I can confidently say that I believe our beloved university has a bright future ahead.”
In her remarks the previous evening, Chancellor Mnookin said she believes there is more that binds us then divides us. Rep. Johnson said, “My colleagues and I are committed to preserving higher education through common sense that entails spending within our means. We will most certainly disagree on items of discussion, but with such a positive outlook coming from the new chancellor, I greatly look forward to beginning this working relationship.”
“Chancellor Mnookin is a mother, devoted wife, loving daughter, and passionate about learning. I am confident she will protect and serve our young people who walk this university’s halls day and night. ON WISCONSIN!”
