MADISON, Wis. – Today, Representative Darrin Madison (District 10) and Representative Ryan Clancy (District 19) were sworn in to the 2023-2024 Legislative Session of the Wisconsin State Assembly. As elected Democratic Socialists, Rep. Madison and Rep. Clancy will be forming the first socialist caucus in Wisconsin since 1931.

Representative Madison issued the following statement:

“I am thankful to the constituents of the 10th Assembly District for the opportunity to serve them. Today is a historic day for Milwaukee socialists and is a testament to the tenacity and grit of the working-class coalition that has been organizing under the moniker of sewer socialists for over 100 years. We are committed to building a broad-based and intersectional statewide coalition. Our new Wisconsin socialist caucus provides us an opportunity to fight for laborers, educators, worker-owned businesses, communities of color, and other marginalized communities throughout Wisconsin.”

Representative Clancy issued the following statement:

“Representative Madison and I are excited to start another chapter in the storied history of socialist organizing in Milwaukee. For too long our political process, on both sides of the aisle, has been beholden to capitalist interests while everyday Wisconsinites get left behind. Our caucus will bring creative and sustainable policy solutions, like the Right to Council for people facing eviction, sourced from and driven by activists, organizers, and the residents of our districts.”
