MADISON, Wis. – Assembly Democratic Leader Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) released the following statement regarding Legislative Republican threats to impeach Justice Protasiewicz:
“Speaker Vos and Legislative Republicans’ threat to impeach Justice Protasiewicz demonstrates complete disregard for the will of the people of Wisconsin and the core principles of our republic. Before Justice Protasiewicz has issued a single opinion, the GOP is threatening to unseat a duly elected justice. Legislative Republicans have made clear that they will stop at nothing to restrict reproductive rights, hold onto their illegitimate majorities, and consolidate their power, even if it means overriding the results of the April election.
“The people of Wisconsin overwhelmingly rejected Legislative Republicans’ chosen candidate in the Supreme Court election. They need to accept that the people of Wisconsin chose Justice Protasiewicz.
“Make no mistake, if Legislative Republicans attempt to impeach Justice Protasiewicz, they would destroy the integrity of the legislature. The people of Wisconsin would not soon forget this effort to permanently undermine our democracy and diminish the power of their vote.”
