MADISON, Wis. — Rep. Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) released the following statement regarding the Assembly floor session:
“Hundreds of UW employees across our state’s campuses are hurting. Many are furloughed and at risk of losing their jobs because of the GOP’s refusal to invest in the Universities of Wisconsin and take up Governor Evers’ special session plan.
“Today, I’m thinking in particular of our communities in Racine and Kenosha counties, as UW-Parkside begins the process of cutting about 50 full-time positions, almost 10% of their workforce. That’s 50 people in our region that are being forced out of their jobs because of the majority party’s inexcusable actions.
“Our amendment today gave everyone in the Assembly the chance to address some of the challenges our state is facing in a meaningful way. To shore up our child care industry, and to return some of the surplus to folks across Wisconsin who need it.
“Assembly Democrats have UW employees’ backs, and we will never stop fighting for what’s right for working Wisconsinites.”
