MADISON, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin Board of Regents is set to meet to vote again on the proposed deal from Speaker Vos and Legislative Republicans. Assembly Democrats released the following joint statement:
“Speaker Vos and Legislative Republicans, in a blatant power grab, have held up pay raises for nearly six months and delayed critical building projects, waging culture wars at the expense of workers, students, and our communities. These attacks on diversity, equity and inclusion move our state backwards, and Republicans’ meddling in the daily functioning of the Universities of Wisconsin sets a terrible precedent.
“Whether it’s threatening to fire regents or breaking the law by denying already approved raises, Legislative Republicans will stop at nothing to get what they want.
“We again call on the Board of Regents to reject this deal. Legislative Democrats know that diversity, equity and inclusion is not a bargaining chip. Our university faculty and staff deserve their pay raises, our students deserve resources and funding for buildings, and our campus communities should be places where everyone can thrive.”
