MADISON – This afternoon, the Wisconsin State Assembly convened to vote on Senate Bill 305, the shared revenue deal struck between Governor Evers and Republican leaders in both state houses. The bill passed the Assembly 68-26 and now heads for the Governor’s desk.

State Representative Supreme Moore Omokunde rose to speak on Senate Bill 305 after it was messaged over from the Senate and offered his thoughts on how this deal would impact the city of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County:

“This was the most difficult vote I’ve had to cast in my time in the Wisconsin State Assembly, but ultimately, I could not bring myself to support this bill when it brings so much punishment to the city of Milwaukee. Milwaukee is the most critical socioeconomic catalyst in the state of Wisconsin and the state’s economic and cultural success ultimately depends on Milwaukee being successful. While this deal may get the city of Milwaukee and Milwaukee County out of fiscal trouble today, it provides countless policy punishments that will only perpetuate some of our most persistent difficulties, racial and otherwise, down the road. For that reason and so many others, I voted NO this afternoon.“

Representative Moore Omokunde represents the 17th Assembly District on the North and Northwest sides of Milwaukee.
