Madison, WI – State Representative William Penterman (R – Columbus) is pleased to announce the successful enactment of two bills, emphasizing bipartisan collaboration and improved governance.
Previously, a loophole in the law exempted University of Wisconsin campuses from honoring DOT-issued disability identifications for veterans and other disabled individuals. This led to fines for parking in exempt spots off-campus, causing confusion and hurdles for disabled individuals. 2023 Wisconsin Act 59 expands exemptions for disabled parking to include University of Wisconsin System campuses, eliminating the loophole and gaining support from the Wisconsin Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
“This legislation passed both chambers on a bipartisan vote. I want to thank the Wisconsin Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America and everyone from both sides of the aisle that worked to get this common sense legislation signed into law.”
Further, Rep. Penterman’s cremation reform bill also became law today. This requires the Department of Health Services to create a standard cremation permit application form, addressing discrepancies identified by the Legislative Council Study Committee on Uniform Reporting Standards. With unanimous support in the Wisconsin State Assembly and Senate, and now the Governor’s signature, this bill became 2023 Wisconsin Act 84.
“By ensuring a standardized permit process, this law will ensure that funeral homes are working off of the same form. Today, we are making government run a little bit smarter and more efficiently.”
