Madison, WI – State Representative William Penterman (R – Columbus) released the following statement following today’s bill signing of Assembly Bill 267 into law.

“Today the governor signed Assembly Bill 267 into law,” said Representative Penterman. “This is my second bill of the session to become law. It will have a real impact to improve existing workforce housing in Wisconsin. This law will simply make housing in Wisconsin better.”

Wisconsin’s newest law improves Wisconsin’s Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program by making various tweaks to the list of qualifications to current law that will ensure well-qualified applicants can receive loans from the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA). The loans will cap at $50,000, not exceed 15 years, only apply to homes older than 40 years old, and must be an applicant’s primary residence.

“Wisconsin has a significant housing shortage,” said Representative Penterman. “In order to support workforce development, retain and attract workers, and improve current housing stock to be in a safe and sanitary condition, Wisconsin must improve aging housing options available. I am proud to build off of last session’s success, and work to improve workforce housing in Wisconsin.”
