MADISON, WI – Rep. Plumer released the following statement after the Assembly passed an historic local shared revenue package for Wisconsin:

“For months, the Legislature worked with towns, villages, cities, and counties to craft a shared revenue bill that provides historic and ongoing local funding. The Legislature also worked in good-faith with Governor Evers to negotiate on issues he raised, and made concessions from our original legislation to address them. I am proud of what this bill accomplishes: a significant increase in support for all local government operations in the 42nd Assembly District, reforms to protect public safety, and the elimination of the personal property tax.

What does this mean for the 42nd Assembly District?

  • Every municipality and county will see a minimum 15% increase in shared revenue, with some seeing even more. This is up from the 10% minimum increase that was originally proposed.
  • An Innovation Fund will provide additional grants to municipalities that consolidate services and create more efficient government operations.
  • Increased support for police, fire, and emergency services.
  • Eliminates the personal property tax, allowing small businesses and Mom & Pop stores invest more into growing their business and employees.

Thank you to the many stakeholders like the Wisconsin Counties Association, Wisconsin Towns Association, and League of Wisconsin Municipalities whose support for this bill and work with the Legislature helped find a consensus that moved this historic funding increase forward.

The bill will now go to the State Senate for debate and a vote.
