MADISON, WI – Rep. Plumer joined his Republican colleagues in the Assembly and passed tough on crime legislation to hold criminals accountable and keep our communities safe. Rep. Plumer issued the following statement:

“Too often, we see soft-on-crime judges and DAs in Wisconsin letting dangerous criminals out on our streets when they should be kept in jail. We see stories almost daily about families and communities victimized by this misguided approach to criminal justice.

“The legislation we passed today doubles penalties for reckless driving, creates a mandatory minimum sentence for violent felons that illegally possess a firearm, holds the parole board publically accountable, and defines “violent crime” and “serious harm” for the constitutional amendment on bail reform that is on the ballot April 4th.

“Wisconsin deserves better than soft-on-crime judges and DAs who put them in danger every day. It’s time criminals are held accountable and we prioritize the safety of our families and communities.”
