Madison, WI – Rep. Treig E. Pronschinske released the following statement succeeding the announcement of plans to vote on a bill that would implement Iowa-style non-partisan redistricting brought forth by Republican members of the Wisconsin State Assembly:
“Today, my Republican colleagues and I introduced a bill that would rid this state of partisan redistricting and instead introduce non-partisan redistricting that would most closely resemble the Iowa model.
“Governor Evers and his Democrat members have all loudly voiced their abundant support of this model in the past so we are hopeful this backing continues. This would take out the vitriol, hatred, and divisiveness associated with redistricting and would affectively end complaints of gerrymandering.
“On top of dismembering accusations of manipulating legislative districts, getting this model signed into law would save Wisconsinites countless tax dollars. Out-of-state special interest groups and numerous lawsuits are tragically and negatively affecting Wisconsin. The fight on redistricting will consume time, as well as money.
“My fellow colleague from across the aisle have long talked about their desire for fairness and it could not get any fairer. The Legislative Reference Bureau (LRB) would draw maps to be voted on by legislators. This model makes sense and I look forward to voting for it on Thursday.”
