(MADISON) – After the Wisconsin State Assembly passed the 2023-2025 Budget tonight, Representative Melissa Ratcliff (D- Cottage Grove) released the following statement:

“With a record surplus, we had an historic opportunity to create a budget that invested in our middle class, ensured access to safe, affordable childcare, effectively addressed the workforce shortage, and fully supported our public schools and students. This could have been a budget that put the people of Wisconsin first. Instead, the Republican majority in the State Assembly has rammed through a budget that, among other injustices, prioritizes tax cuts for the wealthiest in our state and punishes the University of Wisconsin. The people of Wisconsin deserve better. This is a broken budget that reflects a broken political system, where a gerrymandered legislature feels free to ignore the will of the people.”
