MADISON – Today Assembly Republicans passed a package of bills aimed at getting Wisconsinites back to work. The package of bills encourages personal responsibility, prevents fraud and abuse, and ultimately gets people back into the workforce. Rep. Jessie Rodriguez (R-Oak Creek) released the following statement after the passage of the package:

“Wisconsinites spoke loud and clear earlier this month when an overwhelming majority of voters statewide responded to an advisory referendum that welfare programs should have work-search requirements for able-bodied adults.

“We have the lowest Labor Force Participation Rate we’ve had in the last four decades. Meanwhile, there are nearly 100,000 jobs available on the Job Center of Wisconsin website.

“We have a severe workforce shortage in our state, and we can’t allow our tax dollars to be a disincentive for able-bodied adults to gain employment. Public assistance programs are meant to be temporary while our neighbors are able to get back on their feet. This package of bills will ensure we’re using taxpayer funds to focus on reemployment and getting people the support they need to transition back into the workforce.”
