MADISON – Rep. Jessie Rodriguez (R-Oak Creek) joined her Assembly Republican colleagues in voting for the ‘Returning Your Surplus’ proposal, which would provide over $2.9 billion in tax relief for retirees and the middle-class.
“Just a few months ago, Gov. Tony Evers slashed the largest tax cut in state history, turning $3.5 billion in tax relief into less than $175 million in income tax relief for Wisconsin families. As Assembly Republicans, we belief that the taxpayers of Wisconsin know how to spend their money better than the state can. In these inflationary times, Wisconsinites are in desperate need of more money in their pockets to spend how they choose.
“That’s why we came back in on the first scheduled session day since sending the budget to the governor to pass our new proposal to Return The Surplus to the taxpayers of Wisconsin. The ‘Returning Your Surplus’ package will reduce the state’s tax burden by over $2.9 billion.
“This income tax relief is provided through a permanent cut to the third income tax rate, as well as providing for tax-free retirement in Wisconsin. The ‘Returning Your Surplus’ legislation will ensure hardworking, middle-class families can finally catch a break.”
