Madison — Representative Donna Rozar (R-Marshfield) released the following statement regarding the vetoes of Assembly Bills (AB) 141 and 142 by Governor Evers.
“Last week, Governor Evers chose to reject consumer’s freedom of choice. By vetoing AB 141 and 142, state agencies and local governments retain the authority to ban gas-powered motor vehicles, lawn and farm implements, and appliances. As a legislator whose district covers urban, suburban, and rural areas, I understand one solution is not suitable for all. The governor ignores the fact that our state does not have the infrastructure for an all-electric economy. Wisconsin does not have the electric grid necessary to support a fossil fuel free economy, nor is there a plan for the disposal of lithium based batteries (which occasionally leak into the environment).
Representative Rozar further states, “In his veto note, the Governor asserts he is protecting technical advancement in a modern economy. His actions speak otherwise. I believe the people of Wisconsin deserve a choice for their transportation/equipment and are smart enough to make the best decisions for their set of circumstances. Whether you farm 1,000+ acres, want to choose your vehicle for work or recreation, or even live off the grid with propane appliances, the government should not dictate these choices.”
Governor Evers should be ashamed of himself for placing hindrances on and eliminating choices Wisconsinites can make in the future regarding the purchases of vehicles, equipment, and appliances.
