Madison — Representative Donna Rozar (R-Marshfield) released the following statement regarding the veto message of the state budget from Governor Evers.
“I am disappointed that Governor Evers feigns his support for middle class Wisconsinites. The Legislature passed a budget that would give all taxpayers a decrease in the amount of income tax they pay. Apparently, the Governor thinks that anyone who makes over $28,000 individually or $37,000 jointly is wealthy and undeserving of a tax break greater than $37 and $55, respectively. In this inflation riddled economy, anyone who holds this opinion is out of touch with the average Wisconsinite.
“Additionally, the Governor will use taxpayer funds from Medicaid to support genital mutilation surgeries, often presented as ‘gender affirming care,’ and will fund the University of Wisconsin’s mission to spread D.E.I: Division, Exclusivity, and Indoctrination, on system campuses. D.E.I has led to discriminatory policies which impact current and prospective students and faculty. It is a waste of taxpayer money and this veto should not be taken lightly.
“Finally, Governor Evers is responsible for one of the largest property tax increases in state history. The duplicitous use of his veto pen to enshrine an annual property tax increase for public schools equivalent to $325 per pupil for the next 402 years is unconscionable.”
