Madison, WI – After joining her colleagues for a press conference in the Assembly Parlor, Representative Rozar issued the following statement regarding the proposal for shared revenue, introduced by Assembly Republican legislators, which will increase funding of local governments:
“Today, after listening to local officials and constituents from around Wisconsin, we are excited to announce historic investments in local governments. I believe towns will be pleased with the increase in revenue under this proposal, as they are set to receive the largest increase among all municipalities. While the details are still being finalized, all municipalities will receive at least a 10% increase in revenue.”
To fund these increased obligations, approximately $1.5 billion, or 20% of state sales tax revenues, will be devoted to local governments. Over $500 million of new money will be directed toward local government innovation and public safety. To encourage efficiencies and cost savings, the proposal includes a $300 million Innovation Fund. Local governments that collaborate to provide a service will receive a financial incentive from the state. An additional $227 million will be invested in law enforcement, fire, EMS, public works, and transportation.
“Public safety continues to be a top priority for me and my Republican colleagues,” said Representative Rozar. “After the public safety referendum in Marshfield failed this spring, I advocated for this increase in shared revenue to ensure our municipalities are able to keep our communities safe. Significant increases for EMS providers to go towards ambulances, equipment, and durable medical supplies, along with the tripling of grant money available for 9-1-1 system upgrades, are part of the shared revenue package. Additionally, grants for law enforcement officer training are being doubled.”
“The 69th Assembly District will be well-served by this package and I was pleased to be a part of its development”
