MADISON – Today, Rep. Katrina Shankland (D-Stevens Point) released the following statement regarding the passage of Assembly Bill 245 in the Wisconsin State Assembly.
“Throughout the legislative session, I have been encouraged by the bipartisan conversations in the State Capitol surrounding shared revenue. We all agree that the state has a responsibility to return significantly more of our tax dollars to counties and local municipalities to fund core government services, including police, fire, EMS, and public works.
“While I couldn’t support a bill that was amended in 90 ways a mere three hours before the Assembly floor vote today, I remain firmly committed to securing the best deal possible for the municipalities and counties in Central Wisconsin. The process for determining the future of shared revenue should be measured and thoughtful, and enormously consequential legislation should take more than a few hours to review, with all stakeholders at the table. I look forward to working with my colleagues across the aisle to pass a bill into law that provides record funding to local governments without burdensome strings attached.”
