Madison – Representative John Spiros (R-Marshfield) released the following statement after the Assembly approved increasing aid for local governments:

“I am incredibly proud that the Assembly has taken this extraordinary step to support local government,” Rep. Spiros said. “With this investment, we are ensuring local governments have the funding they need to prevent cuts to fundamental public safety and emergency services.”

Assembly Bill 245 makes historic investments in local government by providing over $200 million in new shared revenue, and $300 million in a new Innovation Fund to encourage and assist with consolidation of services and finding creative solutions to local problems. Every single local government will see at least a 15% increase in their shared revenue, with some seeing an over 200% increase.

“This investment will truly be game changing for many of our small municipalities,” Rep. Spiros commented. “I am hopeful that both the Senate and the Governor understand the importance of supporting local governments across the state and will support the proposal.”

Assembly Bill 245 passed the Assembly last night. The legislation now waits for approval in the Senate before being sent to the Governor for his signature.
