Madison, WI – Today, State Representative David Steffen (R-Howard), voted in favor of legislation that prohibits restrictions on homeowners that would prevent them from using the fuel source of their choice. This bill comes in response to bans on natural gas use in a number of communities across the country over the past few years.
“I am proud to have co-authored this legislation that will prevent bans on gas in Wisconsin, like we’ve seen elsewhere. I have been and will continue to be a supporter of an ‘all of the above’ approach when it comes to Wisconsin’s energy portfolio. Removing natural gas from that portfolio is irresponsible and would have serious consequences on energy reliability,” said Rep. Steffen.
In passing this bill, Wisconsin joins over 20 other states that have already enacted similar legislation protecting the fuel choice of consumers. In each of these states the legislation has enjoyed bipartisan support.
“This is a matter of consumer choice and allowing homeowners to decide which fuel sources best meet their needs. The fact of the matter is, homeowners and business owners want natural gas because of its safety, reliability and affordability. Through this bill, Wisconsin will be joining with other states in protecting the 187 million Americans who use natural gas to meet their everyday needs,” said Rep. Steffen.
Along with co-authoring this legislation, Rep. Steffen helped shepherd this bill through the Assembly as the Chair of the Committee on Energy and Utilities. For more information please contact the office of Representative Steffen at (608)237-9104 or by email at Rep.Steffen@legis.wisconsin.gov.
