Madison, WI –Today, State Representative David Steffen (R-Howard) voted in favor of a package of bills aimed at addressing Wisconsin’s workforce housing crisis. The state’s historically low housing inventory coupled with rising housing costs has created a widening gap between the supply and demand within the housing industry.
“Lack of available, affordable housing is a very real stress on Wisconsinites. From an employer’s perspective, access to housing is key to obtaining and retaining quality employees, and for those living and working here, addressing this issue is key to achieving the homeownership dream,” said Rep. Steffen.
The package of bills passed by the Assembly today creates a variety of tools that will provide real solutions to Wisconsin’s housing shortage. New financing tools to incentivize public and private investments, prioritizing projects to rehabilitate aging and vacant properties, and increasing the low-income housing tax credit are all part of the solution offered in this legislation.
“I am proud to have voted in favor of this package of bills that puts our state’s focus and energy on solving our housing shortage. These solutions are key to restoring the dream of homeownership in Wisconsin,” said Rep. Steffen.
The legislation will now move on to the Senate for consideration.
